Hi, I'm Jess and I am a PhD student in Dr. David Holway's Lab at the University of California San Diego in the Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution Department. My research looks at how land-use change and variable precipitation interact to drive changes in wild bee biodiversity. I seek to identify key drivers of extinction risk for wild bees to inform conservation efforts.

I am interested in how community science platforms like iNaturalist can engage a broad audience to gather crucial baseline biodiversity data while creating awareness of pollinators. I co-lead a group of community scientists "The WannaBees" at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve doing just this. I also identify bee observations on the platform with a focus on southern California, Colorado, and bumble bees in western North America.
